2015 is rapidly coming to an end and while SuchCrowd will be working through, we want to take the time to acknowledge the year and let our followers know what they can expect from us in 2016!

So here goes! Our first ‘year in review’ blog post!

The SuchCrowd team began exploring the idea of a new way of organising events in April after meeting at Start-Up Weekend. We talked to many event planners, emerging talent and new event planners right through to established groups, about how they go about putting on gigs and shows. Without fail one of the biggest uncertainties and worries of these event planners was whether enough tickets would be sold to make the event worthwhile. On further examination we uncovered that ticketing systems weren’t the problem as much as the lack of ability to predict attendance (we call it the ‘interested’ on Facebook phenomenon).

The SuchCrowd team wondered … how do you de-risk this process? And even more importantly, how do you change the fact that the majority of people buy tickets last minute to these types of events? It was in Start-Up Space, Dunedin that we starting thinking … what if you could ask people first whether they would come to the event, if it went ahead and was put on … before you spend any time or money on it? What if you could encourage people to buy their tickets earlier in order to support the event going ahead?

In August 2015, SuchCrowd announced it’s acceptance into New Zealand high-tech, high-growth accelerator, Lightning Lab. Lightning lab provided 3 months, funding and mentorship to help progress this business idea into a finished product. This amazing opportunity gave us reason to quit our jobs, pack up our lives and move to Christchurch to work full time on SuchCrowd with high focus on growth.

In September 2015, SuchCrowd launched its platform and started down the path of turning event planning on its head. The aim was to give people a better way to organise events. To give people an option other than spending outrageous amounts of time and money on an event that could fail because of low attendance. On SuchCrowd you can test and validate your event ideas and if enough tickets are sold, run them, without financial risk!

 

With over 20 amazing events going live and only 3 events not achieving their goal, the platform and our amazing event planners have shown that this way of doing events works!

In December 2015, we celebrated our first live event in the United States of America!

We’ve learned A LOT by watching our customers and the awesome ways they use SuchCrowd. Nick Knox who used the SuchCrowd opportunity engage with his existing fans in Wellington. Projekt Team who encouraged the event to be confirmed faster by offering cheaper tickets to those who jumped in early. And Beatbox Rehearsal Studios who used it to launch their fantastic BoxFresh Live events and encouraging established artists that are developing their fan base to promote exclusive gigs.

New Toys for January, 2016

These event planners inspire us! And we’re on a mission to make the absolute best possible product for them. We’re very close to releasing our event planner dashboard to make creating and customising your event pages easy for you to do yourself! Including being able to add video to help promote your events! Event goers will also be able to follow the progress on ticket sales much more easily and be able to track their events and tickets right from the website!

But we’re still learning. Big named events are still being cancelled due to low ticket sales, despite success in prior years. It’s summer season in Australasia and we’ve seen festivals cancelling in the last stages to avoid the risk of a loss from low ticket sales, ECHO Festival, Soulfest and Soundwave being just a few examples. SuchCrowd knows we can improve how things are done in this industry … and we thank our users for showing us how well things can work when you actively engage the crowd in the ticket sales process.

We’re excited to announce that in 2016 SuchCrowd is releasing our promotion system to drive more traffic and early ticket sales to each of our events. We’re calling it crowd driven promotion! What a year! We are loving creating SuchCrowd, dabbling in disruption of traditional event planning and offering a solution to not only ensure ticket sales but to actively increase them – particularly in the early stages.
